Wedge is a London-based design and research studio founded by Andy Zhang, Lei Zhang and Peiyan Zou. Merging material ecology, emerging technologies, and cultural research, the studio develops a synthetic approach that orchestrates the agencies of human, machine, and matter within shared authorship.
Manifesto
Activating Dimensionality — expresses a vision in which design expands beyond form to connect perception, technology, and material intelligence.

Approach
The studio takes its name from the Grassmann “wedge product” in differential geometry, a mathematical operation that constructs higher-dimensional spaces from existing dimensions. Wedge translates this idea into design: separating, adjusting, and recomposing matter, pixels, and time.
Co-Author with Machine
We investigate how computation, algorithms, and artificial intelligence move beyond being mere tools to become genuine co-authors in the design process. By embracing machine agency, we explore how digital systems propose, adapt, and transform creative outcomes—reshaping not just how things are made, but also how ideas emerge and evolve through human–machine collaboration.
Co-Living with Human
Our work foregrounds the sensory and cognitive experiences of people. We design processes that create richer and more meaningful interactions—linking digital workflows, spatial environments, and material presence. By engaging sight, touch, and movement, we ensure design outcomes resonate emotionally and physically, making the digital deeply tangible.
Co-Designing with Matter
We study materials as living systems—responsive, adaptive, and inseparable from the technologies and ecosystem in which they operate. Our research looks at material behaviors, cycles, and renewability, combining emerging technologies with natural processes to advance circular, sustainable, and intelligent modes of making.
Team

What we do
We live in a moment where technology, materials, and culture are converging to reshape how we design and interact with our environment. As a studio for research and practice, Wedge explores new ways for people, machines, and matter to create together. Working across the digital and the physical, we build dimensional experiences for a world in transition.
